About Cornerstones of Trust

The Cornerstones of Trust conference helps security leaders and security practitioners evaluate trends and develop responses to the challenges like increasing cost pressures, rising compliance complexity, changing threat landscape and emerging technology disruptors.

The current global economy is pressuring businesses to operate more efficiently and effectively. Growth is also inhibited, creating downward pressure on operating costs, and ability to raise capital. All these drive a reduced spend forcing businesses to reevaluate their organization structure, functional processes and portfolio of projects for investment. While overall IT spending in down this year, reports indicate security spending may be flat.

The regional regulatory requirements and consumer expectations continue to increase the complexity for both security and privacy controls. This complexity drives up the cost of compliance. The security and privacy controls need to accommodate the vast regional differences with an increased granularity.

The continuous flow of new threats, both inside and outside an enterprise, drives up risks. Businesses need to continue to prioritize critical areas for protection, whether it's considered security, privacy or compliance related. Most large enterprises need to establish a security foundation encompassing all areas.

Businesses should consider the impact of changing technology on their business. The impacts can be positive or negative, contemplated in expanding circles for impact to the organization, enterprise, and the extended ecosystem. Major trends that security and privacy leaders should consider are consolidation and virtualization, automation, managed services, and "Everything as a Service" (cloud computing).

Security and privacy leaders should examine the threats and opportunities to weather the changing times. We welcome your ideas and topics of interest. The following sections outline the four tracks and thought starters for topics. We're keeping an open mind and look forward to you feedback.

CORNERSTONES OF TRUST MISSION

Cornerstones of Trust acts as a catalyst to bring together the Northern California security community for an ongoing exchange of ideas that address the needs, interests and issues of trust that security practitioners and managers are experiencing today. It's hosted as a cooperative effort of the San Francisco Bay and Silicon Valley chapters of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA); and San Francisco Bay Area InfraGard. We encourage contrarian thinkers and practitioners on the front-line to network and share experiences. Selected speakers enjoy complimentary access to the whole conference.
